Foundation vs. Higher Tier
Maths is split into two tiers of entry. Higher tier candidates can achieve grades 4–9, while Foundation candidates can achieve grades 1–5.
What's the difference?
Higher Tier includes additional topics like 3D Trigonometry, Simultaneous Equations with Quadratics, and Advanced Vector Geometry. Our platform automatically highlights ‘Higher Only’ content.
Worked Example
Solving a Linear Equation
Solve: 3x + 5 = 20
- Step 1: Subtract 5 from both sides: 3x = 15
- Step 2: Divide both sides by 3: x = 5
- Answer: x = 5
Tip: Keep both sides balanced at every step.
