London, a city which can lay claim to being the capital of the largest empire that the world has known, once being the home of the British empire which may have ruled over 1/4 if not more of all the world’s landmass, and in addition to that capital of the state which for centuries was considered the ruler of the seas.
Though the empire has the shrunk to almost nothing, the city has grown and expanded and is arguably the largest city in western Europe.
Home to many parks, renowned for its museums which range up to 150, a bustling metropolis, an economic centre and many things more, the city is also the capital of the country that gave us the English language.
Here is the ‘English Made Simple’ (EMS) video on London.
London is a multi-cultural city and despite concerns about the potential rejection with links to the outside world and wider global community the city will always be cosmopolitan and diverse. Founded by Italians (the Romans) resided in by Celts afterwards then the German-Danish tribes of the Angles, Jutes and Saxons who are seen as the original “English”, then conquered by warriors from France, the city like many parts of the world has always seen immigrants and conquerors and a constant infusion of new blood to revive and to renew it both in the form of new generations born in the city or immigrants from outside the city.
According to some it’s the 3rd most visited city in the world but the most visited city in Europe.
It doesn’t have a beach or land directly next to the sea like Barcelona or New York or some of the super-duper ultra-modern features of some other more advanced cities (something however unlike the issue of access to the sea that can always be rectified with a bit of installing some fancy tech here and there), but one of the key things that attracts visitors to this city is its immense history and also its global prestige.
It is interesting what readers think about this.
I think is a great city I should visit, rich of history and full of curiosities.
