Britain Before the Romans

Long, long ago, before the Romans came to Britain, the land looked very different. There were no big cities or roads like we see today. Instead, there were forests, hills, and rivers. The people who lived there were called Celts.

The Celts were skilled farmers. They grew crops like wheat and barley. They also raised animals such as cows, sheep, and pigs. The Celts lived in small villages made up of wooden houses. They wore colourful clothes and decorated their bodies with paint.

One interesting thing about the Celts was their love for storytelling. They didn't have books like we do now, so they shared their stories through spoken words. The storytellers, called bards, would travel from village to village, entertaining people with tales of brave heroes and magical creatures.

Life was not always peaceful for the Celts. Different groups of Celts sometimes fought with each other for land and resources. Despite these challenges, they created beautiful artwork, including intricate metalwork and pottery.

One day, a new chapter in Britain's history began when the Romans arrived. But that is a story for another time.
